Awesome?: Reddit users send Pizza to a young cancer patient

In case you don’t know, Reddit is a hugely popular message board frequented mainly by computer savvy young men and women who usually pass the time by sharing interesting/funny/horrible pictures/videos/stories.

Although a lot of the stuff that passes through the site is fairly unremarkable, Reddit has been known to shine when users come together to perform great acts of philanthropy. For instance, in 2010 the users of Reddit found out about a seven year old girl who was in the advanced stages of Huntington’s disease. As if this wasn’t bad enough, the child’s asshole neighbours decided they would taunt and bully the child and her parents. So what did Reddit do? Well they arranged for the girl to have a shopping spree at Tree Town Toys, a toy shop in her area owned by a Reddit user. After the Haiti earthquake, Reddit donated $185,356.70 to Direct Relief in 2010. In 2012 they did another good turn when a user posted one of my YKW rants and I got so many hits my server crashed…okay that may not be quite as good as the other two but I was happy.

I won’t pretend the site is a saint. Reddit has caused some controversy over the years bur it seems Reddit has once again done something good for the world.

After some Reddit users noticed this sign on the window of a hospital room, they uploaded it to Reddit and in response users started ordering pizza’s for her. Over twenty pizza’s were delivered to Hazel and her family have been giving away slices to others.

Hazel’s mum, Lauren Hammersley, spread the word:  You’ve made a little girl very happy but NO MORE PIZZA IS NEEDED.
